Frequently Asked Questions

Seton House is a self-sufficiency program with single-family housing for single parents with minor children who are experiencing homelessness.

Applications can be submitted here. Follow the steps below to apply for admission to Seton House:

  • Step 1: Complete an inquiry. Call, email, or come to the main office to request an inquiry form. Return via postal mail, email, or in person. You may also apply using our online inquiry form. You can find the online Inquiry under the Future Participants tab.
After you complete your inquiry form (paper or online) our Program Manager will call to discuss the program.
  • Step 2: If during this initial call Seton House is a good fit for your family and you are a good fit for this program, staff will ask you to complete a long-form application that covers additional information about your family and your background. Seton House staff will contact you to schedule an interview after receiving the full application. (Please make sure to update us if you change your phone number.) The interview will give us a chance to get to know you and answer all the questions you may have about our program as well as provide you with resources and referrals.
  • Step 3: If you and the Seton House staff decide that Seton House is a good fit for you and your family, you will be placed on the waiting list for admission. It is important that you call in at least once each to let Seton House staff know how you are doing and that you are still interested in the program when an apartment becomes available.
  • Step 4: When an apartment of the appropriate size for your family becomes available you will be contacted and you will be set to move in.

You are not excluded from our program. Like anyone else, you are subject to completing an application and being interviewed by our case manager. You should secure other housing upon release from your treatment program.

Our waiting list is not the type that requires you to work your way to the top. We have 22 individual apartments and each accommodates a different-sized family. When an apartment becomes available, we determine which family on the waiting list is of the appropriate size for that particular apartment. We also look at how often you have checked in on the waiting list as well as your current living situation. A family living in a car or in a homeless shelter will have higher priority than a family living safely with friends or relatives. To move in, you must have the deposit and program fee funds ready and available.

If you have completed the application and interview process, you will be notified when an apartment becomes available. Please note that if we cannot reach you or you do not return our phone calls, the apartment, and program opportunity will be given to another applicant. Therefore, it is vital that you keep our office updated with your current contact information and that you check your messages.

We will call to schedule a day and time for an intake date for your family to move into your new apartment. At that time you will meet the staff, complete all of our paperwork, pay your deposit and your first month of program fee. Then staff will take you to your apartment so you can get settled. Your apartment will be fully stocked with food, toiletries, bedding and all kitchen necessities.
